 Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Experimental Autoimmune Thyroiditis)

Experimental autoimmune thyroiditis is induced in mice by immunization with murine thyroglobulin plus complete Freund’s adjuvant. The mice develop autoantibodies against thyroglobulin and histological changes consistent with those seen in human autoimmune thyroiditis. It is a useful model for studying the patho-genesis of human chronic (Hashimoto’s) thyroiditis.
